Mákos Nudli, The Hungarian Dumpling With Poppy Seed
Nudli is a dish of potato-based small dumplings popular in Hungarian cooking. It is formed from a soft dough of cooked mashed potatoes, flour, salt and sunflower oil; the dumplings are boiled and rolled in sugar and poppy seeds.
Poppy seeds are common ingredient in Hungarian cuisine. So much, that it’s not unusual to find poppy seeds even in pasta and noddle dishes!

This recipe for mákos nudli is a traditional favorite in Hungary that includes a generous amount of poppy seeds. It’s quite simple and easy to make.

Oh my word, this looks beautiful! I love poppyseed in everything
I think we have the same dish in the Czech Republic called “skubanky”. It’s a typical school canteen dish which most kinds usually dislike. I loved them though!
I must make this sometimes.
I think I read this name “skubanky” on the Internet somewhere so it should be the same. This nudli is very similar to Italian gnocchi (if it’s not the same!) but we eat it in a sweet way. I love it! Yumm!
Those are so gorgeous!
I love poppy seeds in anything and everything so I know I would gobble these up.
Are they meat to be sweet? how are they eaten? On their own or with something else?
Sarah!
Yes, we eat this sweet because of the powder sugar. You can also roll the nudli in toasted breadcrumbs and serve it with any kind of fruit jam. I can imagine eating this as a salty meal too!
Yummy!!! I would not have imagined something with potato being a sweet dish! I have to make this..
